1. Blue Knob State Park, Pennsylvania
Blue Knob State Park offers wilderness adventures all year long in a beautiful woodland setting. Located in south-central Pennsylvania, the park is at a higher elevation than the surrounding countryside, providing cooler temperatures and an average of 12 feet of snowfall annually. The park has three modern cabins and is just a five-minute drive to Blue Knob All Seasons Resort, which has a few thrilling ski runs.

2. Farragut State Park, Idaho
Farragut State Park is a large park with over 40 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing enthusiasts. The park also serves as an excellent base to explore or ski the surrounding area. The park is about an hours’ drive to Silver Mountain Ski Resort, which has several ski runs descending two peaks. Campers have their choice of 292 reservable sites, including 10 cabin campers.
3. Hyrum Lake State Park, Utah
Hyrum State Park rests alongside Hyrum Reservoir in the northwestern portion of Utah. Surrounded by tall, leafy trees, the park is a favorite spot for picnicking, boating, and year-round fishing for yellow perch, rainbow trout, bluegill, and largemouth bass. Skiers can camp at the park and drive just an hour to Powder Mountain, North America’s largest ski resort with over 8,000 acres of skiable terrain for every level of skier. Campers in the wintertime can stay warm in one of the park’s two reservable cabins.
4. Ridgway State Park, Colorado
Colorado has many outstanding parks, and Ridgway State Park is no exception. The park is in view of the towering Sneffels Range and has both lakes and streams while affording a scenic wilderness backdrop for many types of wildlife. What’s more, the park is just an hour’s drive to the beautiful Telluride, Colorado, and its well-known skiing resorts. The park has nearly 260 reservable sites, including three yurt cabins to keep you warm despite the chilly winter air.

5. Curt Gowdy State Park, Wyoming
Curt Gowdy State Park is a favorite destination for mountain bikers, hikers, archery enthusiasts, and outdoor lovers. Located between Laramie and Cheyenne, the park is characterized by its low-lying meadows, gently rolling hills, and massive steep granite formations. The park is also just an hour’s drive to Snowy Range Ski Area, which is a small, affordable ski area in southeastern Wyoming with several runs alongside the side of a mountain. Curt Gowdy State Park has four reservable cabins in addition to 170 campsites.
6. Fremont Indian State Park, Utah
Fremont Indian State Park and Museum was created to preserve the unique rock art and archaeological sites in the area. A visitor center with museum exhibits provides important education on the Fremont Indians. Campers can also picnic, fish, or hit one of the many hiking, ATV, or biking trails. Additionally, the park is just over an hour’s drive to Eagle Point. This is a small, family-friendly ski resort with a short season from mid-December through the beginning of January for lots of privacy and fun. The park has two cabins that sleep up to six people.
7. The Lodges at Coleman State Park, New Hampshire
The Lodges at Coleman State Park is a year-round destination for outdoor lovers. Set in the New Hampshire Great North Woods region, the park boasts a wide variety of recreational opportunities. There is direct trail access to the OHRV corridor system, snowmobile corridors, and it’s just a short walk to Little Diamond Pond for fishing and boating. The Lodges at Coleman State Park also serves as an excellent base for a skiing adventure at Wildcat Mountain Ski Area. The park has four winter-use cabins, four lodge houses, and one lodge room.
