Located in the foothills southwest of Denver, Chatfield State Park offers four campgrounds with a choice of 197 sites; all with electric hookups and many with full hookups that include water, sewer and electric. All sites are within walking distance to the lake. Facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, laundry and water. Ten large group camping sites are also available. Water or jet ski, fish, canoe, sail, swim at the beach and float on the massive reservoir. Visit the marina. Chatfield State Park offers plenty to do from picnicking, hiking, biking, show showing, horseback riding, cross country skiing, ice fishing…there’s even a model airplane field and hot air balloon launch! ADA fishing access, boat rentals and ramps.

For off-road adventurists, there is the Rainbow Falls and North Divide OHV trails. Single and double family campsites available with picnic tables and campfire rings. Open year round, there are several campground options for you to pick from: Reverend’s Ridge and Aspen Meadows. Reverend’s Ridge offers 97 sites to accommodate trailers, pickup campers and tents. 59 sites have electrical hookups. Amenities include flush toilets, shower, laundry and a dump station. Although Reverend’s Ridge is open year round, the showers and dump station close in the winter. Aspen Meadows features 35 tent-only sites. There is a water pump, vault toilets and campsites include tables, fire rings and tent pads. Site # 15 and #16 will accommodate horses. This campground is closed in the winter. For a more primitive and unique camping adventure, there are four backcountry shelters and 20 backcountry tent sites, but be aware there are no fires allowed in the backcountry and you will need to use the provided bear boxes to store your food and trash. If camping with a group, you’ll want to check out the Rifleman Phillips Ground Campground and the Works Ranch Cabin and Group Camping Area.. Rifleman is a tent-only site with hand pump well and vault toilet. This site can accommodate up 75 people. Works is a secluded cabin and group camping area that can house up to 30; great for family or a group of friends. Pets are not allowed at Works Ranch.
Staunton State Park, CO – 12102 S Elk Creek Rd, Pine, CO 80470
Located about 40 miles southwest of downtown Denver, this nearly 4,000 acre state park offers varied geology, water features, diverse wildlife plus rate and unexpected plant life…and great outdoor recreational opportunities. An ADA accessible fishing pier is available and ponds are stocked seasonally. There are 25 campsites that are walk-in and are 200-800 years from the parking lot. Sites include a 12 x 24 foot tent pad, picnic table and bear-proof food storage box. There are vault toilets and water hydrants in the parking lot. Fires are prohibited in this state park but cook stoves with propane or white gas are allowed. Pets on a leash are welcome.
