1. Mistletoe State Park

This park is the merriest of monikers. Get in the spirit with a seasonal walk and easy access to Clarks Hill Lake near Augusta, one of the Southeast’s largest lakes. Mistletoe State Park has fully equipped cottages and a campground offering spectacular views over the water. Make plans to stay and enjoy the campfire with hot cocoa with the family.

2. Red Top Mountain State Park

Red Top Mountain State Park visitors will enjoy many new upgrades at this Lake Allatoona destination. The campground now offers some full hook-ups, ADA improvements, power upgrades, waterline replacement and cable. A new yurt village welcomes “glampers,” and 20 new cottages offer screened porches with pretty views. Additional improvement includes new comfort stations, a new playground, renovated beach area with accessible pathways, and picnic sites.

3. General Coffee State Park

General Coffee’s Heritage Farm is a great place for the family to learn about 19th-century farm and pioneer life. The kids will love the barnyard animals including goats, a donkey, and mule. 4. Jack Hill State Park

Jack Hill State Park in warmer southeast Georgia is a favorite location for family gatherings with plenty of recreational activities. Play affordable golf (as low as $25) at the 18-hole Brazell’s Creek Golf Course, rent a boat for a day of fishing, or explore the trails. The park offers 29 campsites, 10 cottages, and four picnic shelters perfect for parties and reunions.

5. Seminole State Park

Plan a peaceful retreat to Seminole State Park near Silver Lake Wildlife Management Area. You’ll find excellent birding, relaxing on the white sandy swimming beach, and fishing. Lake Seminole offers some of the best bass fishing in Georgia and is the location of several major bass tournaments. Anglers will enjoy the abundant variety of fish, including largemouth bass, striped bass, crappie, chain pickerel, and catfish.
