Renowned as the Grand Canyon of the East, Letchworth State Park is a scenic wonder to behold. The Genesee River roars through the surrounding gorge, over three major waterfalls, between cliffs as high as 600 feet in some places. Visitors have their pick of activities, including biking, horseback riding, fishing, over 66 miles of hiking trails, hunting, swimming, an ice skating rink, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and the list goes on! 3. Pearl Lake State Park, Colorado

Considered one of the most scenic state parks in Colorado, Pearl Lake State Park is nestled at the foot of the majestic mountains north of Steamboat Springs. Quiet and remote, this park has a large lake that is excellent for canoeing and fly fishing. There is a vast hiking trail system that connects up with national forests. Most of the 36 campsites and two yurts get ample sun and boast views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Sites can be reserved up to six months in advance, so now is the time to reserve your summer camping spot.
4. City of Rocks, New Mexico

Home to rare and beautiful volcanic rock formations, City of Rocks State Park is a fantastic state park to visit, but it can fill up fast. Early spring and September though early winter is the best time to visit, as temperatures are cooler. Low light pollution makes this state park a gem at night as well, with their very own telescope and observatory. During the day, every one of all ages can enjoy the unusual scenery and explore the rock formations.
5. Buttgenbach Campground at Croom Motorcycle Area, Florida

The Buttgenbach Campground at Croom Motorcycle Area (CMA) is located within the Withlacoochee State Forest. The campground is well-known for the miles of surrounding motorcycle and ATV trails for riders of all ages. The campground makes for the perfect basecamp with 51 RV/tent sites with electric and potable water, two bathhouses, and an all-terrain vehicle wash station. Sites can be reserved up to 11 months in advanced, so now is the time to reserve your summer and fall camping spots before they fill up.
6. Atlanta State Park, Texas
Booking Window: 5 months in advance

- Located on the banks of a large lake

Towering pines and hardwoods shade this park, located in the northeast portion of the state. Hugging the shores of Wright Patman Lake, Atlanta State Park is a great spot for fishing, boating, water-skiing, and swimming. There are also hiking and nature trails, as well as plenty of picnicking areas ashore. Campers can reserve one of 58 campsites up to five months in advance.
7. Buffalo Bill State Park, Wyoming

- Excellent wildlife sighting opportunities
This fantastic state park has a beautiful mountainous backdrop, perfect for relaxing at the campsite, fishing, spotting elk and antelope, and taking a day trip to Yellowstone National Park. There are 77 first come, first serve campsites, but if youโre looking to visit on a holiday or weekend, your best bet would be to book one of the 22 reservable sites in advance. You can book up to four months in advance.
8. Brushy Creek State Park, Iowa
Booking Window: 3 months in advance

- Large lake with four boat ramps, and eight jetties for fishing
- 35 miles of multi-use trails
- Great picnicking facilities
Fishing is an ever-popular activity at Brushy Creek, with a lake that boasts 21 miles of shoreline, four boat ramps, and eight fishing jetties. The park also has 35 miles of multi-use trails for horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Picnic areas, located throughout the park, have tables and fire grills. Additionally, there are three shelters and four beach cabanas that can be reserved. There are over 250 campsites, including equestrian, that can be booked three months in advance – just in time for your spring camping plans.
9. Finger Lake State Recreation Area, Alaska
Booking Window: 7 months in advance

Now is the time to plan a trip to Alaska. Anytime is a great time to visit Alaska, but in fall the days are long, the weather is mild, and there are fewer crowds. Finger Lake State Recreation Site is a quiet spot, comprising almost 70 acres of stunning Alaska countryside. The lake has an area for swimming, but is largely used by canoers, kayakers, boaters, and sport anglers who come to fish rainbow trout, arctic char, and grayling. There are 24 campsites and two group sites available to reserve.
